The video that stuck out most for me is 'girls just want to have fun' by Cyndi Lauper. This video at first just seems to another pop song about parting, but after reading the article it makes you think more about the video and lyrics. Girls were seen by there parents to be respectable and not to do anything wrong, its a boys job to break rules. This song seems to have feminist undertones to it, the title 'girls just want to have fun' implies that boys are having fun and girls are not.  My video is Where is the love? by the Black eyed peas, this song is all about how we should stop fighting and start caring for one another.

I have noticed ever since I was a kid that advertisements are geared towards certain people depending on what show and channel you are watching. When I used to watch cartoon network, I noticed that that most commercials were for toys. I watched a bit of cartoon network yesterday and nothing has changed in ten years, half the commercials were for toys. So when I comes to MTV there is very little difference. In the ‘haven’t met you yet’ video, Toyota believes that people who listen to Michael Buble are old enough to afford cars, they are targeting a middle class market. Just like commercials on cartoon network target kids.

Barbie and stuff.

I didn't know that collecting barbies was so popular. I find collecting things kind of strange, the idea of gathering things that you are not going to use just seems so dull. After reading this I made me realize that collecting barbies actually can make peoples life better, or at least help them get through difficult times. The author found meaning in something that she didn't really like or care about. I hope to do the same with my next paper, doing something that you would not usually do, and embracing it.

The Last Stop makes you think about death in a very different way.  It makes you think about the business side to death, that people actually make their living off of death. The Visa Mastercard sign shows that it is just a normal business. Cable went into the funeral home with thinking it was going to be an awful experience, and that the undertaker was going to be scary, but it turned out that the undertaker was ‘amiable’, all he wants to do is comfort people when they are most vulnerable. 

When I think of my life I think of all the people I have met and experiences I have had with them. Coming from England I think I tend to see things very differently from a typical American. I defiantly have a very different cultural lens, on the surface the two cultures may seem to have only minimal differences, but the more time I spend here the more I notice the differences between myself and everybody else. I may look the same because I have to wear pledge attire but I feel very different. My music taste is different from the typical rap loving college kid. I am fan of indie and alternative music, also rap is not that popular in the UK. I find with music I need to relate to the lyrics in some way. Also I play bass guitar so I like music that use ‘real’ instruments.

Everyday we see struggle, some keep fighting and succeed but others fight and fail. In Virginia’s Woolf’s ‘Death of a Moth’ we experience the latter. This moth tries so hard to succeed but eventually fails and dies. If the moth didn’t try to escape then it might of lived, but its relentless struggle led to its demise. Virginia Woolf’s feels a connection to this moth, she feels like she can see success but something is stopping her from reaching her goal, similar to the moth being able to see freedom but the window pane is stopping it from reaching its goal. Everybody has some invisible force stopping us from doing something, be it fear or the risk of embarrassment.  This text is all about the struggle between life and death, if we stop trying we will die. What I believe Virginia Woolf is trying to say is don’t give up, even if the odds are against you. Even though Virginia Woolf was in a dark place when writing this text it doesn’t mean that she condoning suicide.
