Soft-N-Dri advertisement

The target audience for this advertisement is women. Most women can relate to the model in the advertisement, with the girl being the “All American Girl”, being a pretty blond girl who likes the color pink. Even though she is this pretty girl she is still a tough girl, which shown with the worker gloves and the truck. Women are strong with everything they deal with and they still try to look beautiful while being the tough and strong women they are. Since most women can relate to her it will make them think that Soft-N-Dri  is the right deodorant for them.

1983: The Female-Address Video

I never thought of the song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” as one of those songs that has a meaningful undertone until I read this article. What struck me as most interesting is that Cyndi Lauper used a former wrestler as her father figure in her video, because it makes more of a statement of how she is going to have fun now and not even this big man, that is her father, can stop her. Cyndi Lauper’s video had a stronger message to me, because she is in the face of her audience about how girls don’t want to be all grown up just yet they want to have fun too just like the boys get to do. She shows this by pushing the male figures around and being defiant to both of her parents. I’m writing my paper on Katy Perry’s “Thinking of You” video and I think she is portraying the hardships of a young woman, during the 50’s war era, had to go through when losing the love of her life to the war. Another thought is that she is comparing the innocents of true love and the meaninglessness of what is pure companionship, and nothing more, there is no love in that scenario. I think that these videos did help to start thinking about my own video in how I could look deeper into the video.

The Last Stop

One of Cable’s assumptions about a funeral home they would be located on the out skirts of town, but certainly not in the busy part of town. He also didn’t expect them to have a clock at the top of their building he didn’t think they were concern with time as well. He did expect the funeral director to look exactly how he appeared, which was creepy or “death on two legs”. My image of a funeral director is not the stereotypical image that most would think of just because one of the old friends of the family is actually a funeral director and he is a very nice, loud, and funny man. He is one of those people that would do anything for you and I know him outside the office but I’m sure he is the same way but probably a little bit more reeled in since he would be dealing with the passing of a loved one. I think he captured the funeral home very well, because I could actually picture the room with the hotel furniture that has a homey feeling to it.

Befriending Barbie

I didn’t know that people would pay so much money for a Barbie doll. Before this essay my feelings about Barbie was a doll that I once played with and had a lot of them. My thoughts now about Barbie are that they are a great toy for little girls, but I don’t see why anyone would want to pay so much money for a doll when they could use it something else that would be more useful. What I got out of this essay was that some people have too much time on their hands but it’s good that they have something that brings them joy… I guess. What I liked about the essay was that it showed the different types of people that collect Barbie dolls. The most import part of this story I think is that it’s always nice to have something in your life that can take your mind of the stress and hardships of everyday life. My reaction is that the writer is pretty good at keeping my attention and that is not easy to do, because I don’t like to read, most of the time I get have way through the book and then never pick it up again. I think it will help me in my essay  by showing me that if I put enough detail in my story it might come out to be somewhat interesting.
