Befriending Barbie
I did not know that there were various kinds of Barbies, and how much people were willing to pay to get types of Barbies they want that only cost a couple of dollars at a store. People at the convention really take Barbies seriously. When i was little i had a couple of Barbies, and i played with them and dressed them up. I feel respect for the people that have a special memory tied to the Barbies like Judy did when her son died. She takes comfort in Barbies and it reminds her of those happy memories she had of her son. The most important part of this story is to not go into something you do not know much about having a judgmental attitude, and thinking all these people are fanatics about just a doll. My reaction was much like the narrators reaction in that i was surprised at how i felt more in-tune to how the people felt about Barbies. They each have a personal story connected to the doll they own. Instead go into something with an open-mind, and you will learn a lot. I liked this story it changed my perspective of Barbies, and i am more educated on Barbie.
